Celebrations & Shared Secrets
My, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?
Pardon my absence; I’m a space cadet on the side and I’ve clearly been in a different universe since my last blog post. I’ve been trying to think of the perfect subject, but that seems to stop me in my productive tracks, and here we are many months later than I had planned. It takes a lot to get the proverbial pen to paper sometimes, but something about special occasions just arouses the writer in me.
What special occasion, you may ask? Oh, just my birthday. (Mark your calendars, lovers! I’m a late-August Virgo babe.)
Everyone has a different relationship to birthdays and celebration of the self: family stressors come to a boil at the most inconvenient of times, significant others can sometimes fail at mind-reading and gift-giving all at once, timing is poor (or you are), work is busy, or friends forgetful or all out of town. I used to love hosting parties (I even worked in event management for years!) but somehow find it stressful to throw one for myself. I’m more likely to be found in a hot tub with a lover or attending a decadent dinner than at a party these days, mostly because I embrace a “Work hard, relax hard” life mentality. When working hard also means I play hard, it becomes as important for me to set time aside for relaxing, and frankly, hiding with a good book and a large bathtub.
This summer is full of reasons to celebrate! I have many anniversaries to celebrate, including the anniversary of me leaving the civilian work force and not least of all, my birthday. I hope we’ve had or will make time to hide away with together this summer and celebrate in our own special ways.
I’m going to end this blog post with an attempt at shamelessness. If want to treat me for my birthday, see my Spoil page, and I have a shiny new Amazon wishlist [NB: Old link, I don’t use Amazon anymore so I removed it!] to peruse. (You’ll notice I’m nesting right now, based on the amount of home accoutrements listed!) I’m always delighted to share a good meal, but note that I’m not drinking right now so any wine gifts are hopefully intended for my wine fridge. And I mean, if you wanted to contribute directly to my tattoo funds or to pay towards my student loans, I wouldn’t say no…
Hope I’ll see you soon for our own private celebration.
